Darrell's Ongoing Legacy
Before his tragic 1990 accident, Gwynn won an NHRA World Championship in 1983 (Top Alcohol Dragster). In 2001, he was voted one of NHRA's "50 Greatest Drivers All-Time" and in 2002, he was inducted into the prestigious International Drag Racing Hall of Fame. Gwynn is a corporate spokesperson for Hooker Electric Reels and Director of the Darrell Gwynn Quality of Life Chapter of The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis. Gwynn is also the President of Darrell Gwynn Ventures.
His greatest legacy is his daughter, who was the result of the fertility program at Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. Now, she is an adult, and he continues his longstanding relationship with the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. At his own foundation, he donates customized and motorized wheelchairs to children. He is very active in the foundation and enjoys visiting car auctions and donating the proceeds to The Miami Project. He is also a Bass Pro ambassador to promote their new products, which are designed for those that are paralyzed or have physical disabilities.

Darrell has upcoming seminars to bring awareness to people with disabilities about how they can go outdoors and how Bass Pro can help them with their products. He is involved in raising awareness for spinal cord injuries and helping people that have been impacted by spinal cord issues like his own.
